Autism Services
One of Providence's specialties in Maine is providing highly effective, evidence-based treatment and education services to children diagnosed with Autism. The treatment model we use if Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Providence provides the following two programs for children with Autism:

PROVIDENCE MERRYMEETING CENTER
Providence’s Merrymeeting Center, located in Bath, is a comprehensive care, treatment, and education program for children with Autism and similarly presenting developmental disabilities utilizing methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Merrymeeting Center is committed to the philosophy that children with Autism and related developmental disabilities deserve access to education and treatment that are objectively and scientifically validated as effective and delivered by professionals with specific methodological competencies.

Merrymeeting Center provides services to children between the ages of birth and 20 years of age. Services include early intervention, State Certified Special Purpose Private School, wraparound home and community-based care and treatment, consultation and educational outreach. The staff of Merrymeeting Center includes, Behavior Analysis Technicians®, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Licensed Psychologists, Certified Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Case Managers.

CHILDREN'S REHABILITIVE AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES (RCS)
RCS is provided to children with autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and their families, utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Entry-level staff receive over 75 hours of ABA and behavioral health training and oversight, with education continuing throughout the professional’s career with Providence. Training, supervision and ongoing consultation is provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Licensed Psychologists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers.

Services are provided in the home, school and community, focused on reducing challenging behaviors and helping individuals to acquire pro-social, adaptive skills. While much of treatment and support is provided directly with the child, RCS services have a strong family-centered focus. This includes involving the child’s parents/caregivers in the treatment process to encourage greater family independence and quality of life.
